Laser hair removal should be the go-to method for removing unwanted hair, and it trumps all of the traditional hair removal methods like waxing, shaving and hair removal creams.

Although methods like shaving, waxing, or hair removal creams are the least expensive ways to remove unwanted hair up front, they can sometimes be extremely painful, messy and actually cost more over time. Laser hair removal, on the other hand, will save you a lot of money on razors and relieve yourself of painful or time-consuming hair removal techniques.

Let’s Discuss Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal at Enlighten Laser is done with the power of elōs Plus. This revolutionary laser uses a patented technology that combines bipolar radiofrequency with the diode laser to allow for deeper penetration into the dermis, therefore better guaranteeing effective, incredible results. The unique radiofrequency feature of the treatment allows the diode laser to heat up the targeted hair follicles more effectively, minimizing risks of possible complications and allowing for a full range of hair colours to be effectively treated.

Now let’s dive in some of the traditional methods…for comparison.

Shaving

Shaving is usually the number one option for those that need to remove unwanted hair. It is inexpensive, and can be done right in the comfort of your own home. On average, women spend about 72 hours on shaving their hair, and the average amount spent on razors, and shaving creams over the course of a lifetime is anywhere between $10,000 and $20,000! Other than the amount of time and money that is spent on shaving during your lifetime, there are other negative aspects that come along with shaving your hair. For one, shaving is very short-term, lasting about two to three days, and the more often you shave, the coarser the hair grows in. This happens because, when you shave your hair, you are only removing the surface hair and not the follicles, which causes the hair to poke through the skin’s pores. Many women experience very prickly, dark, and thick hair growth after shaving.

Shaving also promotes ingrown hairs. Ingrowns are hairs are painful and an irritating pimple-like irritation on the skin Ingrown hairs appear when the hair growth starts to occur in a different direction than before. Ingrown hair can also become infected, as the pores are often exposed and can be susceptible to bacteria entering the skin. Furthermore, when you shave very coarse hair, this can cause razor burn. Razor burn causes the skin to appear very bumpy and red and will produce small pimples on the skin.

Luckily, laser hair removal has none of these negative effects.

Waxing

Waxing is a longer-lasting hair removal method as opposed to shaving. Although it is extremely painful and can cause a lot of irritation to the skin. Some of the irritations that come along with waxing is redness, burning, bumps, ingrown hairs, sensitivity to sunlight, allergic reactions to the wax, and even bleeding. Individuals with very sensitive skin are told not to wax their hair, as these types of irritations are almost certain when you have sensitive skin.

With waxing, due to the fact that the hair is being ripped out from the root, pores will open up where hair and hair follicles once were. When the pores of our skin are opened up, there is a huge risk of bacteria or unwanted particles getting into the skin, which can cause serious health concerns.

Unlike waxing, laser hair removal is not painful, and it will not cause serious skin irritations. Although the hair follicle is destroyed when you proceed with laser hair removal, the pores do not open up the way that they do with waxing, which in turn will not cause bacteria or unwanted particles to enter the skin. Another positive with laser hair removal is that the results are much more long-lasting, and over time, prevents the regrowth of hair in the hair follicles that were destroyed by the laser.

Creams

Another common way to remove unwanted hair is by using hair removal creams. The idea of hair removal creams is to apply the product to the skin, wash it off and the hair is removed at the surface, similar to shaving. With this method, hair follicles still remain intact, so hair growth will be relatively quickly and the hair may come in coarser or thicker. Another issue with hair removal creams is that dark spots can appear on the skin, which is where the leftover hair in the follicle remains. Although cosmetic concerns are a huge reason as to why you shouldn’t use hair removal creams, the biggest concern are the chemicals used in these products.

Irritations on the skin caused by hair removal creams are sometimes redness, burns, blisters, tingling sensations and in some cases, especially those with sensitive skin, allergic reactions. Similar to waxing hair, those that have very sensitive skin are advised to not use hair removal creams as it is almost guaranteed that you will experience some of these uncomfortable and unsightly irritations.

Unlike hair removal creams, laser hair removal does not use any harsh chemicals to remove hair but instead uses light energy, which is much safer and longer lasting for the skin. Also, it removes the hair follicle, so you will not experience any sort of dark spots, and hair regrowth is stunted.
